Bonjour les filles! In the spirit of London Fashion Week (eek!) I am getting involved with a little colour blocking. OK, it’s S/S11 but nevermind, I’m super excited about this Spring’s brights. I am especially coveting this lime top and gorgeous bejewelled necklace by Lanvin. Now Fairy Godmother, please can you give me an advance on my pay this month? Merci!

Canadian Style

Amandine goes to Canada

Bonjour mes choux!

Just a lickety-split quick update as I am jetting off to Canada on Monday for a spot of Skiing. Mais oui! Whilst I’m there I will also be checking out the Canadian fashion, and the best spots to drink hot chocolate & brandy. Keep your eyes peeled for updates! First on my list is a chic pair of snowboots, preferably faux fur-lined and ideally involving a pompom or two.

See you stateside.

Amelia's Compendium of Fashion Illustration

I am uber excited today. Mainly because Amelia’s Compendium of Fashion Illustration goes to print tomorrow. The wonderful and super talented Amelia Gregory has truly created a real treat of a book for your viewing pleasure, packed full of ethical designers and beautiful illustrations from a team of talented illustrators. Oh la la, talk about eye candy! Amongst the illustrators featured are Gemma Milly, Abi Daker, Becky Glover, Faye West, Naomi Law, Yelena Bryksenkova to name just few. You’ll just have to check it out to see the full extent of talent, and mark my words, I’ve seen the work of all these people and they are GOOD!

OK here are the vitals. The ‘ooooh aaaaah’ pretty front cover was designed by Arizona-based artist Andrea Peterson. Well done lovely it look amazing! The book features interviews with 30 hand-picked illustrators on their craft, as well as 50 profiles of the best up and coming ethical fashion designers, including jewellery and footwear. It’s also printed using vegetable inks on FSC approved paper. Is there anything that Amelia hasn’t thought of??

So it’s hats off again to Amelia for working super, super hard to create such a beautiful and relevant coffee table book, and championing the cause of up and coming illustration talent, not to mention some fabulous ethical fashion designers.

Uhh..if you’re still reading this why are you not heading over to Amelia’s Magazine to order up a copy or three?

Cafe culture

Happy Friday mes amis!  I’m just about to embark on my first Mission as Agent Amandine, reporting on whatever fashion faux pas I can spy today. There will be copious amounts of coffee and a macaroon or two involved methinks! I will be posting my findings on the blog just as soon as I’ve written them up.

Ciao ciao.

Whilst the recession grinds on and The Guardian told us yesterday that it will get worse before it gets better, I have put my mind to thinking of ways I could save a little dollar myself. My first dilemma is this: would I swap my Dior for dinner, hypothetically speaking of course? And I’m talking dinner of the ‘dine in for £10’ variety plus a bottle of something cold, not a bife de lomo at Gaucho.  Having had my eye on the new SS’10 Dior Poudrier Dentelle for what seems like an age, I have come to the conclusion that I mustn’t let a little sustenance come in the way of beautiful lids. And surely it’s for situations exactly like these that the Gods invented rice cakes?

Money Saving idea no.2. Stay in with a copy of Pretty Woman on DVD or pay for my own Mojitos? Now this is a difficult one, being an old fashioned kinda gal…but there’s only one answer to this conundrum. I mean, who needs Richard Gere when you have your fabulous girlfriends and cocktail happy hour at Glow Lounge?

“Genius is a talent only for the living; those who possess it have little gift for dying.”

So said American journalist Janet Flanner, although perhaps this isn’t strictly true if you count the late Lee Alexander McQueen’s planned underwear line as genius. I have it on good authority (The Guardian daahling) that the unconventional fashion icon was about to bless us with be-feathered pants,  x-ray print briefs and scull & crossbones boxers.

I for one would definitely pair these with my Armadillo heels for a morning trip to the patisserie for my croissant. Fashion genius non?

Me voilà!

Well I am very excited to welcome you to my new blog! This is the first of what I hope will be many articles on all things art, culture and fashion from our fabulous capital city. All seen through the eyes twenty-something (hanging on for dear life though!) girl about town.

Sitting in my favourite cafe, armed with a latte and my sketchbook,  I will be bringing you a daily slice of London life. From fashion to films, Brick Lane to ballet, Chanel to cupcakes, I will try to brighten your day with my incidental ramblings and pretty pictures.

So grab a skinny latte, sit back, and enjoy.
