Fuelled by an addiction to Spooks and the secret fantasy that I’d actually love to be a Bond girl, recently I’ve been reading a lot about spies. And in particular, celebs throughout history that were also moonlighting as secret agents. Did you know, for example, that Frank Sinatra was a courier for the CIA? Or that Josephine Baker smuggled intelligence hidden in sheet music? But the Nazis left her alone because she was so hot. Well, I’m hardly surprised at their twisted logic.

But the most intriguing discovery that I’ve made so far is that Selfridges was one of the top espionage hot spots in London during WWII.  So not only is the Oxford Street Landmark home to some beautiful Jimmy Choos, it also housed the voice encryption technology operated by US Signal Intelligence for the phone link between Churchill and Roosevelt. If I was ever a secret agent I think I would sit in the foodhall sipping my bubbles from behind the pages of a glossy, and on the days where there wasn’t too much spying to be done, I would nip over to Womenswear to make sure I was impeccably dressed in case of capture.

Well, what’s the point in being a Bond girl if you can’t look the part?
